Start 2017 out the right way by planning ways to save water and money. One way to reduce your water consumption is to plan now to make Landscape changes this Spring to conserve water. On November 16, 2016 at a public hearing new water and sewer rates were approved. Effective January 1, 2017 new water rate: $1.87 per 1,000 gals, new sewer rate $1.87 per 1,000 gals. (Based on winter water average).

Who owns it?
A question often asked when a water service line is leaking or if there is a blockage in a sewer lateral is: “Whose responsibility is it?”
A water service line is a pipe that conveys water from a large water main to the home. The homeowner and the District have responsibilities for portions of the water service line. The District owns and maintains the water service line from the water main, which is normally located in the road or park strip, into the meter box that services the home. The homeowner is responsible for maintaining and repairing the water service line after it leaves the meter box.
A sewer lateral is a pipe that takes wastewater away from the home. The homeowner owns, maintains, repairs, and replaces the sewer lateral and connection to the sewer main as needed. The District maintains the sewer main that receives the wastewater from the homeowners’ sewer lateral.

Slow the Flow save H2O phrase is as applicable today as when it was first used in the year 2000. This resource can be accessed on the internet at www.slowtheflow.org. Providing helpful conservation tips, lawn watering guide, and a free water check that analyzes the efficiency of your automated sprinkler irrigation system.
Fraud Caution
Customers have reported receiving phone calls from unknown individuals requesting payment of water bills. If a caller claims to be calling for payment of your water bill they are actually crooks looking for a quick payoff. Taylorsville-Bennion Improvement District will not contact our customers by phone for payment. If you have any question regarding your account, please contact us at 801-968-9081.
Time for a Tune Up?
Experts estimate that 50 percent of the water we use outdoors goes to waste from evaporation, wind, or runoff due to over watering. Inspect irrigation systems and check for leaks and broken or clogged sprinkler heads. Fix sprinkler heads that are broken or spraying on the sidewalk, street, or driveway.
Summer is on its way.
Now is a good time to think about outdoor water savings. Here are a few ideas. Tune up sprinkling systems by replacing broken heads and making sure sprinkler system works properly. Only water what you what to grow. Avoid watering sidewalks, driveways and the road.

Notice of Rate Increase
On November 18, 2015 at a public hearing, new water and sewer rates were approved. Effective January 1, 2016, new water rate: $1.78 per 1,000 gals. and new sewer rate $1.78 per 1,000 gals. based on winter water average.
Notice of Rate Change
Please note there is an additional expense for Central Valley Water Reclamation Facility that is needed to rehabilitate aging infrastructure. The amount is $5.00 per month for each equivalent residential unit. While these expenses are never desired, they are necessary to continue providing high quality service to the district customers. Problems can develop in your plumbing drains and in the sewer collection system due to the improper disposal of fats, oils and grease (FOG). In order to reduce potential problems the following information is provided by Taylorsville-Bennion Improvement District on how to properly handle FOG.
Disposing of used cooking oil and grease down a sink can be costly both to the homeowner as well as the District. Grease disposed of in sinks and drains can lead to sewer line clogs and sewage backups into homes and businesses, sewage overflowing into streets, and adverse impacts to public health and the environment.
The easiest way to solve the FOG buildup problem is to keep the material out of the sewer system. Here are a few tips:
- Collect grease and food scraps from plates, pots, pans, utensils, grills and cooking surfaces into a can or the trash.
- Pour cooled FOG into a can or other container with a tight lid (coffee can, glass jar or plastic container) and dispose of it in the garbage.
- Don’t pour grease down garbage disposals. Put baskets/strainers in sink drains to catch food scraps and other solids, and empty the drain baskets/strainers into the trash.
Tell your family, friends and neighbors about problems associated with grease in the sewer system and how to keep it out. The solution starts in your home with your actions.

Notice of Budget Hearing
Pursuant to Utah Code Section 17B-1-609 notice is hereby given that the Board of Trustees for the Taylorsville-Bennion Improvement District will meet on Wednesday, December 16, 2015 at 4:00 p.m. in the District offices located at 1800 West 4700 South, to discuss and consider adoption of the Operating and Capital budgets for 2016. Also under consideration will be the reopening of the budget for 2015 and discussion of any changes necessary.
The Tentative Budget for 2016 will be on display in the District office seven (7) days prior to the hearing. For details or special accommodations, please call the District office at 801-968-9081.

Equal Payment Plan
Equal payment starts again in October. You can sign-up by mail, email or fax. Forms are available here on our website on our Downloads and Links page. The deadline for enrollment is October 31st. If you are currently on equal pay you don't need to sign-up again. Your payment amount will be recalculated automatically in October.
Where did the Summer Go?
The kids are back in School and the days are getting shorter. Labor Day reminds us to check the Suggested Watering Guide for our lawns and start preparing for next year’s growing season.
Remember that lawns do not live on water alone. Consider the following to promote a healthy and beautiful lawn this fall and through the winter:
• Apply a high nitrogen/winterizing fertilizer to promote root growth and provide needed energy until spring.
• Aerating the lawn allows air and water to enter the soil encouraging root growth.
